"Darkness Ascending" is an episode from the fifth season of the science fiction television series Babylon 5.

Synopsis

Lise surprises Garibaldi with a visit to Babylon 5. She discovers he is drinking again and confronts him. He denies there is a problem but promises not to drink during her visit. Sadly, he cannot maintain his pledge. Lise wants Garabaldi to return with her to Mars and help run the corporation she inherited. After Lennier's evidence arrives, Sheridan tells Garibaldi he is needed more than ever. Garibaldi urges Lise to leave quickly, as war is about to be declared.

Lyta offers telepath DNA to the Narns through G'Kar in exchange for ships and transport to help the rogue telepaths find a homeworld. After a test of trust, G'Kar agrees.

Londo and Vir find themselves isolated from the other Alliance representatives but dismiss this as a side effect of the mutual distrust which has arisen because of the shipping attacks. Londo and Vir are told by the Centauri Palace they can expect accusations of Centauri involvement in the attacks, but that the evidence is tainted by the possibility the Narns are using captured/castoff Centauri vessels to conduct the attacks. Londo and Vir learn of an Alliance meeting to which they have not been invited. And since no meetings were to be held until evidence of who was behind the attacks can be presented, they conclude the Centauri are to be accused.

Arc significance

Lennier uncovers allegedly conclusive evidence that the Centauri are behind the attacks on Interstellar Alliance shipping lanes.
